The most famous trail is the Western States Trail, which runs 100 miles from Lake Tahoe to Auburn, with over 20 miles in park.

Great trail for anyone with nice runs that follow the Flat River and some varied landscape that makes you feel like you're in Jurassic Park. The second staging area is Trail-head East 7 miles east of the Foresthill Bridge, located on the left, just past Drivers Flat Rd. day hiker be warned.

when the road is open there is limited day use parking for a few cars. The trail along the river is beautiful and can be extended up Western States up canyon. Fees subject to change.

Some trails or park services may be closed this weekend so check with local authorities before heading out.

The path is nice - paved and not crowded - the first sexton was pretty and wooded - it then veered more into town, but it’s a small town so not an issue.

I recommend driving down the 2 miles to the camp site and then there’s a real trail along the river which was so gorgeous. I recommend driving a 4wd vehicle vs a car.

Be prepared for lots of trash and lots of cars as you walk through downtown Greenville. Four primitive campgrounds are available in the Auburn State Recreation Area. Trails are narrow in many of the places so passing can get a bit tricky. Our favorite starting point, where we park the car is Jackson’s Landing, and you can head either way as the trail is a loop. Incredibly awesome views, very few people, great workout, amazing floral colors and clear clean waters that were moving fast!

parts with no shade, but the forested part is beautiful and a nice walk. As of a week ago (we were told) they put graded gravel down over the dirt road and so the 'hike' from the staging are is basically a walk down a road to the river.

Once teeming with thousands of gold miners, the area is now a natural area offering a wide variety of recreation opportunities to over 900,000 visitors a year. I wouldn’t do the entire walk again, but just segments of it we do several times a year. Plenty of hiking too. Mountain biking and other bicycling is allowed on certain roads and trails in Auburn S.R.A. I parked at the Baldwin lake parking area, be warned, roughly the first four miles of the trail from this direction are through industrial area. Saw deer by the river. So after realizing that we drove down to the bottom (kinda a single lane and bumpy ride on dirt & gravel / would not be fun if busy) and hopped on the Western States Trail.
We drove to the bottom at the advice of some nice rangers and parked at the campground and then hopped on the western states trail for about 4miles. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Driver’s Flat Trails. The All Trails map has you start at the top of the road. There’s a little path down there to the water and a hidden “beach area”. This staging area is also located on the pavement in a large turnout area just off the main rd and can be crowded on weekends but can accommodate many more cars and rigs than the Grizzly Bear House turnout. views are amazing and i imagine that coming up the road would be a nice thigh burner. There are a couple nicely paved turns that belong to different paths.

Note: closed for hikers and camping from 10/15 to mid-April. Beautiful views but on gravel the entire way.

Towing a trailer brings unique challenges to drivers. I've never experienced a pay to hike and I dont usually carry cash on me so i was severely disappointed that i didnt get to hike it.

Well marked...but you need to trust the signage. I do want to go back, but next time I’ll drive the 2 miles down since it’s on a gravel road. Vehicles with high clearance are strongly recommended. Short drive to the staging area. Nice walk, especially once you’re south of the meijer and past 91 a bit. Worth checking out if you want a easy three miler. Driver's Flat Trailhead [PRIVATE PROPERTY] is a 3.8 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Applegate, California that features a river and is rated as moderate. Beautiful scenery. A group of us tried it and we all hike and walk in the foothills a lot. Note: Campgrounds are closed seasonally (October to April). Expect no shade! The original Ruck a Chucky was a dirt 4x4 road that went from the staging area on divers flat road down to the river. The road can be closed during inclement weather. Camping is only allowed in the following designated areas: Over 100 miles of hiking and horse trails wind through the steep American River canyons and along the North and Middle Forks of the American River. The trail is fairly well marked.

I can hike to within a football field of Rainbow View, but I can’t reach it.

By the time me and my dog got to the trail she was exhausted and so we hiked for a little and then went back to the beach area to relax. this trail description starts at the top of drivers flat road which is a dirt 1 lane road to ruck a chucky campground. The 25K starts at Drivers Flat- at the dirt parking- top of Drivers Flat Road. The hike out was tough!

The water is only 2-5 inches deep but moves fast so your feet will get wet.
