My brother wants to start the Blackest Night arc, but he doesn't know if he should read any other arcs before it in order to fill in any back story. At various points in the book a character might show up who he's never heard of before, so it is a good idea for him to research the character on wikipedia when this problem arises. What to read before Blackest Night? Would a reading order just encompassing those books make for a good read? I don't know how the rest of the list holds up, but Green Lantern #52 should definitely be read before BN #8.

I would take and read Blackest Night: Green Lantern (because of it having "prelude" chapters to Blackest Night) and Blackest Night together.
